EU Project "WoodTreat" Launched with iVTH Participation

WoodTreat – Innovative integral approach for wood waste depollution and multi-sector valorization
WoodTreat opens up new avenues for the safe reuse of treated waste wood.
Large quantities of waste wood are currently difficult to recycle due to treatment with wood preservatives intended to increase its durability and are predominantly used for energy recovery in accordance with the Waste Wood Ordinance. As a result, valuable raw materials are lost.
WoodTreat addresses this challenge by developing innovative decontamination technologies that enable the recovery of clean secondary raw materials from contaminated wood, thereby transforming waste into valuable resources for a circular, bio-based economy.
WoodTreat’s main objective is to develop processes for obtaining wood preservative-free secondary raw materials from heavily contaminated waste wood. The goal is to convert highly contaminated wood waste into safe, high-quality materials. Industry and society benefit from new recycling options, less waste, and a more efficient use of existing resources. In doing so, the project supports key objectives of European climate and sustainability policy.
The 18 project partners come from 10 European countries (Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Albania). The WoodTreat project is coordinated by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).
